Description:
The aim of this PhD project is to develop antennas for on-body and even in-body devices, with a special focus on maintaining radiation efficiency and an application-specific radiation pattern within human tissues. At the same time, unwanted RF exposure of the tissue surrounding the antenna and the resulting energy loss shall be minimized.

Description:
The focus of this PhD project will be on the development of novel tools and techniques enabling fast and accurate thermal modeling based on MRI data, mainly addressing the following applications, effective patient-specific Hyperthermia cancer treatment planning by coupled EM and thermal simulations, development of new RF related safety standards, and the task may also include fast conversion methods of MRI data into 3D computational models of the human body.

This PhD project will focus on creating a multiphysics environment suitable for the flexible coupling of different solvers and extending our existing range of solvers. The main objectives of this PhD project are the characterization of the potential danger of implants during MR examinations and the development of concepts to reduce potential RF coupling/EMC.

Description:
This PhD project will focus on simulating high intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) induced opening of the blood-brain barrier and targeted drug delivery - a relatively novel medical technique. A simulation environment will be developed capable of computing ultrasound propagation, micro-bubble cavitation, pressure induced flow and transport variations as well as the resulting biological consequences and effects. Interaction with medical and biological experts will be possible and close contacts to other research groups in the field will have to be maintained throughout the project. Novel numerical techniques and mathematical models will have to be developed and implemented.
